Expansion of the YSF International Activities in the Middle East

A meeting with the presence of Mr. Khosravi (Head of the Middle East Section of WIIPA), Mr. Moaddab (YSF Executive Manager), Ms. Mohammadi Panah (Secretary of the International Committee of the YSF) and Mr. Salimi (Director Executive of Khayyam Festival) was held between World Invention Intellectual Property Associations (WIIPA) and the Young Scientists Festival (YSF).

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Moaddab gave a brief explanation about the YSF. He explained about the ways of cooperation and participation of universities and leading organizations in the field of science and technology with the festival; Mr. Moaddab further mentioned the educational and consulting programs of the festival, in order to benefit all the youth and those interested in business and entrepreneurship from these programs in all the provinces of the country as well as in the international dimension.

In the following, Mr. Salimi provided explanations about the Khayyam Festival and the activities occurring in this festival, including:

  • Military service reduction,
  • Introducing the YSF winners to the growth centers,
  • Introduction to executive institutions, and
  • Granting international awards and introduction to commercialization funds.

He further mentioned that Mr. Khosravi has been appointed as the head of the Middle East department of WIIPA.

Then Mr. Khosravi introduced the World Invention Intellectual Property Associations (WIIPA) as follows:

WIIPA aims to promote invention and innovation. The Middle East regional office was also established in order to increase unity and focus on the new members. This office is more active in East Asia, i.e. Turkey, because the Middle East, as a developing region, requires more attention.

In order to increase the productivity, WIIPA has increased its focus on the process of training and providing services to member countries, monitoring their activities, attracting members and regional policy.

This association also has missions, including:

  • Providing services such as consulting for effective communication, patent registration and intellectual property related to the inventions of the members,
  • Participation of the members as well as university representatives in practical seminars (internal and external(,
  • Interaction and cooperation between member organizations, inventors and producers in order to strengthen multilateral relations, and
  • Establishing research centers with the aim of training and holding international assemblies.

In the end, the head of the Middle East Regional offices of WIIPA noted:

Through this association, young and talented inventors benefit from the expertise of the trainers and as a result, their talents flourish.

Then, Ms. Mohammadi Panah gave explanations about the process of internationalization of the YSF, the establishment of the UNESCO Basic Sciences and Technology Club, the amount of support for the selected participants, organizing scientific webinars in all parts of Iran and the opening time of the registration portal. The Secretary of the International Committee of the YSF presented her request based on introducing the international judges and speakers for the closing day of the festival.

Finally, Mr. Khosravi announced his agreement to cooperate and interact with the Young Scientists Festival. He also requested the YSF to introduce a representative to the WIIPA.
