The international approach of the Young Scientists Festival

Due to the importance of internationalization in intensifying the impact of the Young Scientists Festival as a symbol of supporting basic sciences in the country and region, some mechanisms have been planned to engage and strengthen international relations to develop basic sciences by encouraging teams to invite international members.

The main goals for internationalizing the festival are as follows below:

  1. 1. The International Young Scientists Festival, to encourage faculty members, students, researchers, industrialists, and those who are interested in working in the basic sciences to conduct research and development as international teams can help to improve the country’s scientific relations with international scientists and experts outside the country in the implementation of product-oriented projects.
  2. 2. The festival is an opportunity for educating, and transforming ideas into real products and applications, especially in the field of basic sciences, for young people who, in addition to benefiting from financial support to achieve results, will benefit from training and supporting courses and skills development of their mentoring. In the process, you will also acquire the idea of ​​application, teamwork, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  3. 3. The presence of non-Iranian experts/students living in the country and Iranian and non-Iranian scientists/researchers living outside the country can enrich the level of activity, improve their international exposure and induce the scientific richness of ideas and the success in their implementation with international cooperation.

This regulation has been compiled to provide a framework for internationalizing the Young Scientists Festival.

The range of international activities of the Young Scientists Festival

The range of the festival’s international activities is not limited to the international experts’ participation in teams in the festival. It may include other activities that envision the application of science in development and promoting sustainable development in our society. The Young Scientists Festival will work on other types of international activities, such as partnering with international festivals or international organizations such as UNESCO, ECO, etc.

Target groups of the International Festival

  1. 1. Students and non-Iranian researchers studying in Iran
  2. 2. Non-Iranian or Iranian students, researchers, experts, and professors living abroad

Fields of participation of international teams in the festival

The International Young Scientists Festival works in 5 fields of basic sciences, including 1) biological sciences,2) chemistry,3) physics,4) mathematics and computer science,5) geology, and also a special approach to artificial intelligence.

Eligibility to participate in the International Festival of Young Scientists

  1. The presence of at least one candidate from a non-Iranian team or non-resident is required to participate in the festival.
  2. The participation and presence of at least one Iranian student, professor or researcher, or specialist resident in Iran in each team are mandatory.
  3. implementation of the project and expenditure of the grant awarded by the festival will be in Iran.
  4. The main member of the group is responsible for implementing the idea and project and conducting administrative affairs, signing the balance sheets, and reporting must be a resident of Iran.
  5. International Iranian, non-Iranian, or non-resident project members can participate in the project remotely and virtually, depending on the nature of the project.
  6. 6. The responsibility and role of the non-Iranian member in the team are significant, and the performance of the Iranian team member is described in the online entry form.

 

Selection Criteria and evaluation process

  1. The evaluation of the nominations takes place according to the regulations of the scientific and business committees of the festival, recruiting eminent experts of the country and non-resident international reviewers according to the standards approved by the University of Tehran and the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology for two stages of screening.
  2. If members from top-ranked universities or world-renowned technology companies have a functional role in the project, the priority factor in acceptance for the relevant project will be applied in the final evaluation.
  3. Twenty percent of the judges of both sections of idea generators and start-up businesses will have non-resident Iranian professors in the festival’s judgment.

Time frame of the festival

The closing event of the YSF is held iannually in November

Granting support to selected international teams in the idea and start-up sections

Educational support, along with awards and support credits provided for international projects, will be the same as those with Iranian members. If the team’s project with the highest score is selected for support, they will receive 20% of the supporting rate of the approved annual one of the festivals.
