President of University of Tehran: Alongside talent acquisition, training our children to grow talented is also important

Prof. Mohammad Moghimi – President of the University of Tehran said: we have been recently challenging with the standards of determining elite individuals where we only focus on the number of high-quality articles published as a defining factor for classifying individuals as “elite.”

Dr. Moghimi also explained about the Young Scientists Festival, organized by the Jamili Science and Technology Foundation and said: this festival aims to support innovative ideas, startups, and entrepreneurship, all centered around fostering creativity where it has successfully addressed the challenges, we encounter in identifying top talents.

Dr. Moghimi emphasized the importance of talent identification and acknowledged that we have a wealth of talented individuals within our country, however, the focus on nurturing and supporting them in their professional growth has been insufficient and also, we have not been able to provide adequate job opportunities for them.

He continued: when assessing the qualifications of an elite individual, it is important to consider a comprehensive set of standards rather than focusing on the number of published articles to avoid their migration to other countries because their talents have not been welcomed and appreciated in the country.

The President of the University of Tehran expressed his sincere gratitude to the Young Scientists Festival which is organized by the Jamili Foundation, focused on basic sciences to emphasize the importance of the applied basic science researches and said: unfortunately, these foundational disciplines often do not receive the attention they deserve. One of the contributing factors to this situation is the significant challenges that graduates face in terms of direct employment prospects in these fields, especially in our country. It is essential that we prioritize providing necessary laboratory and research facilities to support the growth of these disciplines and facilitate their contribution to employment opportunities.

At the end Dr. Moghimi added: While many foundations focus primarily on supporting infrastructure and construction projects, the Jamili Foundation’s mission is to offer support to science researchers to scientifically develop in the country.
