The 7th YSF Research and Development Grant Laureates were Announced in the YSF Closing Ceremony

The 7th Young Scientists Festival Closing Ceremony took place on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, in parallel with the celebration of research week of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology. The ceremony was organized by the Jamili Science and Technology Foundation and was held in the Central Library Hall of University of Tehran, attended by (Prof.  Mohammad Ali Zolfigol – Minister of MSRT, Prof. Seyed Mohammad Moghimi – President of the University of Tehran, Prof. Mahmoud Kamarehei – President of YSF, Eng. Ebrahim Jamili – President of YSF Policy-making Council, Prof. Vahid Niknam – YSF Director, and Prof. Peyman Salehi – Deputy Minister of Research at MSRT).

The President of YSF Policy-making Council said: it is important to focus on creating hope and job opportunities for young researchers to help them build a better future for the country. In line with this, the YSF aims to support young ideators and start-up owners to transfer their ideas into products. Our main goal is to foster entrepreneurship in young generation and enable them to run their own businesses.

The President of YSF added: this year in the 7th YSF, a total of 335 ideas in the idea section were received that after the evaluation process, 33 ideas were awarded the research grants. 51 business proposals were also received in start-up section that 10 were awarded the development grants and among 52 applicants of young basic science faculty members, one was awarded the research grant.

The Minister of MSRT said: as the Jamili Science and Technology Foundation had been decided to specifically focus on supporting the basic sciences, it is worthy to mention that it is a significant step taken by this foundation to focus on applied basic science research.

Prof. Zolfigol expressed his sincere appreciation for the invaluable support our country receives from individuals who are dedicated to promoting science and technology and said: it is important to recognize that these philanthropists are not only investors in scientific endeavors, but also contribute significantly to the advancement of our nation’s knowledge and global visibility. Their generosity of the foundations like Jamili Science and Technology Foundation enable our scientists to make remarkable contributions on an international scale.

The President of University of Tehran said: regarding the YSF’s framework, in collaboration with the Jamili Foundation and the University of Tehran, it aims to support innovate ideas in basic science to address the industrial or health challenges.

During the ceremony, a panel discussion titled “what do entrepreneurs need to success and how government and NGOs can help?” was held by the presence of esteemed guests including (Dr. Mahdi Elyasi, Deputy for STI Policy & Development, Dr. Farzin Fardis, Secretary of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, Dr. Peyman Salehi, Deputy Minister of Research at MART, and Dr. Iraj Tajeddin, Manager at the Zarrin Industrial & Mining Group).

At the end of the festival, the flag ceremony of the awarded teams was hold and following the group picture, the festival participants were invited for the dinner ceremony.
