A Ceremony for Commemorating Distinguished Professors

The YSF public relations announced that a ceremony was held on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Allameh Amini Hall of the University of Tehran to honor the distinguished professors. The event was attended by the Minister of Science, Research and Technology, the Secretary of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution, and the President of the University of Tehran. Furthermore, eight Distinguished Professors were acknowledged during the ceremony.

The Distinguished Professor Award is granted to top faculty members of the University of Tehran who have demonstrated excellence in scientific and cultural domains at both national and international levels. The Board of Trustees follows the university’s rules and guidelines in the approval process.

Additionally, the President of the University of Tehran, with the approval of the Board of Trustees, confers the title of distinguished professor. Distinguished professors are also eligible for various privileges, including the option to postpone retirement in accordance with the university’s employment regulations and the award of an exceptional promotion rank.

During the initial phase of the selection of distinguished professors, the Selection Council of Distinguished Professors, chaired by the President of Tehran University and comprising the Vice-Chancellors of Research, International, Education, and Culture of the University, is responsible for the selection process.

Distinguished professors are symbols of wisdom.

Dr. Seyed Mohammad Moghimi, the President of the University of Tehran, stated in this ceremony that these distinguished professors can significantly contribute added value to their nation and country, particularly in developing countries.
Furthermore, the President emphasized Iran’s long and proud history and highlighted the need for these distinguished professors to be the pioneers if the goal is genuine development. Thus, it is crucial that we recognize and introduce these professors to others.
He stressed that these distinguished professors should serve as academic and societal role models, and therefore, we should actively promote and advertise their achievements among the youth.

Lastly, Dr. Moghimi expressed gratitude to Eng. Ebrahim Jamili, the Founder and Chairman of the Jamili Science and Technology Foundation, as the primary supporter who provided the necessary resources for organizing and preparing the awards ceremony for the Distinguished Professor special badge. The President of University of Tehran acknowledged that benefactors not only offer encouragement and financial resources for events but that their spiritual presence holds greater importance and effectiveness than mere financial resources.

Cultivating Scientific Advancements: A Catalyst for Societal Progress and Global Recognition

The Minister of Science, Research, and Technology emphasized the profound significance of power in the realm of science and technology, applauding the country’s commendable and legitimate progress in these fields. Dr. Zolfigol further underscored the importance of investing in science as the primary means to advance our civilization.

Moreover, Dr. Mohammad Ali Zolfigol emphasized the necessity of nurturing hope and fostering societal identity, with distinguished professors serving as crucial embodiments of our scientific and national identity. According to the Minister of Science, Research, and Technology, “In this ceremony, the University of Tehran not only pays tribute to these eight distinguished professors but also recognizes their scientific expertise and influential positions within the country.” Subsequently, he asserted that honoring such admirable individuals and exceptional scientists leads to a positive flow of energy.

In conclusion, he highlighted that when scientific research is published in reference books and scientific publications, it becomes a valuable resource for others to reference and utilize. This exposure acquaints people with the author’s name and the country of origin, generating interest in the country’s contributions to science.

Similarly, when a country develops and shares technological innovations that benefit other societies, it enhances its soft power and garners wider acceptance.

The word ‘wisdom’ encompasses all the characteristics of a distinguished professor.

Abdol Hossein Khosrow Panah, the secretary of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, declared during the ceremony that awarding the badge of distinguished professor is equivalent to bestowing the badge of wisdom.

He further emphasized that all the attributes of a distinguished professor can be found within the word “wisdom”. He underscored that God Almighty recognizes wisdom as one of the forms of knowledge, with reason serving as its source. Concluding his speech, he addressed the distinguished professors as the masters and sages of our time, acknowledging their lifelong dedication to knowledge, rationality, and societal service.

During the ceremony, the Distinguished Professor badge was awarded to Dr. Mahmoud Kamarei, the President of YSF, as well as Dr. Ali Akbar Moosavi-Movahedi, Dr. Ali Akbar Sabouri, and Abbas Mosallanejad, members of the YSF’s policy council. Additionally, Dr. Moghimi, the President of the University of Tehran, expressed appreciation and gratitude to Eng. Ebrahim Jamili for sponsoring this special event.

Other professors who received this prestigious award included Dr. Gholam Ali Afrooz, Dr. Mohammadali Akhavan-Behabadi, Dr. Mohammad Reza Mokhber Dezfouli and Dr. Jawad Faiz.
