On Monday evening, September 8, 2025, the closing ceremony of the sixth Mustafa (PBUH) Prize took place at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall, bringing together a distinguished assembly of scientific leaders and laureates. Among the honored guests were Dr. Hossein Afshin, Vice President for Science at the President’s Office; Dr. Ali Akbar Salehi, Chairman of the Board of the Mustafa (PBUH) Science and Technology Foundation; Mehdi Safarnia, Secretary of the Prize’s Policy Council; and Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry, Secretary-General of COMSTECH — the OIC’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation. The Mustafa Prize is awarded in two categories: to individual or group laureates from across the Muslim world, and to laureates residing in OIC member countries. The award is open to Muslims or citizens of the 57 OIC countries, regardless of age, gender, religion, or denomination.
This year’s laureates shared powerful messages during the ceremony. Dr. Mohammad K. Nazeeruddin emphasized the critical role of research and international cooperation in addressing global challenges such as energy crises and climate change. Dr. Vahab Mirrokni dedicated his cash prize to the Young Scientist Medal, aiming to support emerging researchers under 40 across the Islamic world. Meanwhile, Dr. Mehmet Toner highlighted his lifelong mission to develop micro- and nanochips for cancer cell detection, offering new hope for patients worldwide.
