The Young Scientists Festival recently hosted a meeting to discuss the implementation of sustainable development and explore potential solutions for achieving it. The meeting was started by Dr. Aliakbar Barati, the Head of Department of Agricultural Management and Development at the University of Tehran, who emphasized the importance of considering the three dimensions of sustainable development: social solidarity, environmental responsibility, and economic efficiency.
According to Dr. Barati, sustainable development requires a systematic thinking approach that takes into account the basic economic needs of society, social credibility, environmental respect, and the rights of future generations. He also highlighted the role of the three pillars of governance – people, governing systems, and private sectors – in supporting academia to develop practical products to be used by society.
Dr. Soroush Moaddab, the YSF Executive Manager, talked about the Jamili Science and Technology Foundation’s efforts to raise awareness about the impact of sustainable development through its UNESCO club in Iran, called the “Basic Sciences and Technology Club.” He also proposed joint events to analyze the challenges in achieving sustainable development, involving the university, industry, and government at national and international levels.
Holding joint events on “global warming” and “soil crisis” by Department of Agricultural Management and Development and YSF was agreed. These events can provide a platform for discussing the challenges of sustainable development and finding solutions to them.
