On July 2023, a meeting was managed at Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics (IBB) between the Director of Young Scientists Festival (YSF) executives and Dr. Ali Akbar Moosavi-Movahedi, YSF’s policy council member and the president of Iran Society of Biophysical Chemistry to plan for a high-standard level celebration of the 7th YSF nationally and internationally.
At first, Dr. Moosavi-Movahedi explained about the “basic science” from a different point of view and said: Basic science is a “pure” science. Therefore, because pure science explores the unknown, the results are unknown before the project is complete. Because of these uncertainties, pure science research often takes significant time to complete, and requires substantial troubleshooting. It is the result of basic research that generates new scientific information by exploring the unknown and then transfer it to other fields as, for instant, medical sciences, engineering, etc. So that basic science combines all pure sciences for a better scientific result.
Dr. Moosavi Movahedi added: the first and most basic goal of science is to teach HR professionals and mentioned well versed ones like Abu Rayhan al-Biruni, Ebnesina, and Abū Bakr al-Rāzī.
Dr. Moosavi-Movahedi said: if we are to consider the relations between science and engineering, the relation between pure and applied science will have the first to be made very clear. Yet the studies in basic science is in need of investigation. Furthermore, inviting benefactors is asked for financial support.
In this regard, it was recommended to manage a meeting between benefactors and graduated students of IBB by Dr. Gholami, Head of YSF Planning & Management Committee.
Dr. Gholami added: YSF tends to expand international activities and therefore, a part of the financial support should be considered for elite students abroad and it’s better to break the steps and start first with ECO member countries. This collaboration leads to award international grants to participants.
Dr. Moosavi-Movahedi recommended expanding international collaborations at the regional, Asian and global levels.
Dr. Shadi Jamili, Director of YSF Office, explained about the name of the supporter foundation changed to “Jamili Science and Technology Foundation”, YSF’s collaboration with internet TV of University of Tehran and expanding scientific activities in the country.
Dr. Gholami added: basic science plays a pivotal role in running start ups and new businesses and in this regard, 4 start ups will be selected in the field of basic science every year and will be supported till running the startup completely.
Dr. Moaddab, YSF Executive Manager, explained about the process of judging interdisciplinary ideas and basic science conference.
Therefore, it was planned to manage a meeting between YSF and National Science Foundation to discuss about suggestions presented by Dr. Moosavi-Movahedi.
