Honoring Professor of Science and Ethics, Dr. Aliakbar Mousavi Movahedi

According to the Public Relations of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Dr. Aliakbar Mousavi Movahedi, the faculty member of Tehran University, the head of the Biochemistry and Biophysics Research Center, and the member of the Policy-making Council of the YSF, received the COMSTECH[1] Lifetime Achievement Award in Chemistry.

In the honoring ceremony of the selected Iranian scientists of the COMSTECH, Dr. Vahid Haddadi Asl, the Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology in International Affairs, considered sanctions against Iran to be the main obstacle in cooperation with COMSTECH and said: “Three COMSTECH networks, including the Nano Technology Network, Science and Technology Parks, and Virtual Universities of the Islamic World, operate in Iran.” Mr. Vahid Haddadi Asl emphasized: “The activities of the three COMSTECH networks in Iran are very important. In addition, Iran’s policy is serious cooperation with COMSTECH and we consider it an honor to receive the award of this organization by our scientists.” He also stated: “Many professors and students from Iran cooperate with COMSTECH, and currently some professors from Iran have been able to win the awards of COMSTECH, the awards that are valuable and can expand the activities of scientists and create motivation for them.”

 

Suggestions of the Iranian winner of the COMSTECH Award for the development of science and technology in Islamic countries

Dr. Aliakbar Mousavi Movahedi, the Iranian winner of COMSTECH Award, presented suggestions for the development of science and technology in Islamic countries and said: “The scientific award leads to scientific competition at the international level.” He further offered two suggestions regarding forming the Iranian COMSTECH elite center and added: “The first proposal is the support of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology for this center and the second one is, at the discretion of this institution, the establishment of the COMSTECH Scientific Council Secretariat.”

Mousavi Movahedi pointed out: “Scientific institutions such as the Mustafa (pbuh) Science and Technology Foundation (MSTF), the Secretariat for the Development of Science and Technology in Islamic countries located at the University of Tehran, the Secretariats of the International Festivals of Kharazmi, Razi and Farabi, along with the institutions of science in Islamic and regional countries can support these proposals.” The winner of the COMSTECH award emphasized: “There are vast possibilities in the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the region, for which a scientific policy strategy should be formed.”

COMSTECH Awards in 9 specialized fields, including COMSTECH Lifetime Achievement Award in Biology, COMSTECH Lifetime Achievement Award in Chemistry, COMSTECH Award for Best Research Paper in Biology, COMSTECH Award for Best Research Paper in Chemistry, COMSTECH Award for Best Research Paper in Mathematics, COMSTECH Award for Best Research Paper in Physics, COMSTECH Young Researcher Award, COMSTECH Award for Best Scientific Book, and COMSTECH Award for Best Patent are presented biennially in the field of basic sciences and science and technology to appreciate the researchers of member countries of the OIC. Each award includes a certificate, medal of honor and cash prize.

The committee grants special awards to scientists living and working in the member countries of the OIC who have performed valuable research activities. The COMSTECH Award is one of the prestigious scientific awards for researchers in Islamic countries.

In this ceremony, Dr. Ismail Ghovanlou, the faculty member of Shiraz University, also received the COMSTECH Award for Best Scientific Book.
