Global Scientific Collaboration Blossoms at Young Scientists Festival

In October 2023, the Young Scientists Festival welcomed a delegation of esteemed academic members from Nanjing University in China, led by Professor TAN Tieniu, who serves as the head of the Supreme Planning Council at Nanjing University. They were joined by a group of professors from the University of Tehran.

Dr. Shadi Jamili, the Director of the YSF Office, extended a warm welcome and introduced the meeting’s attendees. Following this, Dr. Siadat and Eng. Manzoumi, both YSF international experts, provided insights into the Jamili Science and Technology Foundation’s mission and the YSF’s objectives. Eng. Manzoumi also highlighted the festival’s inception in 2017 under the Jamili Science and Technology Foundation, the establishment of the UNESCO Basic Science and Technology Club, and the festival’s international expansion since 2022.

Dr. Sari, the Scientific Secretary, elaborated on the foundation’s activities, the evaluation process for projects, and the number of top applicants in both ideators and start-up sections, as well as the grants available to participants.

Ms. Hu Jie introduced Nanjing University, discussing its scientific reputation and global ranking.

Eng. Jamili, the President of the YSF Policy-making Council and the chairman of the board of trustees of the Jamili Science and Technology Foundation, expressed gratitude to the University of Tehran for fostering connections with the visiting Chinese delegation. He emphasized the role of universities in global cooperation and shared his hope that talented young individuals worldwide can realize their ideas. He also expressed the desire to explore collaboration between the festivals in China and the YSF, facilitating an exchange of experiences and practical work.

Prof. TAN Tieniu, in response, appreciated the YSF’s invitation and acknowledged the valuable work of the Jamili Science and Technology Foundation. He discussed similar initiatives in China, such as the “National Festival for Innovation” and the “Young Scientists Forum,” expressing that Nanjing University will host the former in 2025.

Prof. TAN Tieniu also noted the existence of a “Young Scientists Forum” in China with a structure reminiscent of the YSF. It was decided to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to initiate joint scientific cooperation between the two parties, with an invitation extended to Prof. TAN Tieniu to attend the closing ceremony of the 7th YSF.
