A science popularization event called “Night sky with Stars” was held on the occasion of Global Astronomy Week in five places of Tehran Young Scientists Festival (YSF) from April 26-30, 2023
This event arranged, in Mellat Park on April 26, in Milad Tower on April 27, in Gonbad-e Mina on April 28, in Sharif University of Technology campus and Chitgar Lake on April 30.
Sky observation with telescopes, holding group discussions on the importance of science in our daily lives, and demonstration of some scientific experiments were different types of the programs of this event.
The noon sun was observed at Sharif University of Technology using an H-alpha telescope. During this observation, flares and sunspots were clarified to the audience by an expert.
The moon and some planets were also observed in the evening observation section with 10- and 14-inch Newtonian telescopes.
The talks on the science impact in our daily life and everyday science experiments organized in four sections of astronomy, geology, physics and biology.
Some of the physics and astronomy experiments included Tesla coil, galaxy and universe structure simulator, Jupiter, observing the electric field lines under a loop microscope, observing the structure of telescopes up close, and planet’s magnetic fields simulator. There were also experiments such as the Bernoulli blower, electrical conductivity meter, magnet experiments, and various astronomy models.
In the field of biology, various samples of insects and laboratory slides were examined using a loop microscope and an optical microscope. In the geology section, different types of rocks and minerals were introduced and the characteristics of meteorites were explained.
This magnificent event was organized by the Young Scientists Festival (YSF), in collaboration with Jamili Science and Technology Foundation and UNESCO basic sciences and Technology Club, Iran Amateur Astronomical Society, and a group of experts in the field of science and astronomy.
