Spreading Science is among UNESCO’s Missions in Higher Education

The meeting of the members of the YSF Policy-making Council with the Secretary General of the UNESCO-Iran National Commission was held on October 24, 2022 in the office of the Secretary General of the UNESCO-Iran National Commission.

Ali Akbar Matkan, the Secretary General of the UNESCO-Iran National Commission, made suggestions about benefiting from the successful experiences of UNESCO in the internationalization of the YSF and increasing its productivity. Emphasizing the importance of holding such festivals in Iran, Mr. Matkan considered the YSF in line with the missions of UNESCO in the field of higher education. He also requested the YSF to introduce a representative for further bilateral interactions and supporting the YSF in its internationalization process.

Ebrahim Jamili, the YSF Head of the Policy-making Council, while introducing Jamili Science and Technology Foundation and the purpose of its establishment, noted: “In line with the goals of the Foundation, the Young Scientists Festival started its activity six years ago exclusively in the field of basic sciences. We have conducted extensive studies on similar festivals in the world and realized that scientific foundations provide the main support for these types of knowledge-oriented events in the world. As a result and by changing its statutes and going through the legal process, Jamili Charity Foundation changed its name to Jamili Science and Technology Foundation.” Mr. Jamili also stated: “The main goal of this foundation is to support the spread of knowledge at the national and international level and to properly use the capacities of the country’s top universities as the supporters of this festival.”

Peyman Salehi, the research deputy of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology also mentioned: “The main goal of the YSF is to create motivation and hope for the youth and scholars of Iran.” He also presented a report regarding the meetings of the YSF policy-making council with the Minister of Science, Research and Technology and considered the popularization of science and technology as the prospect of this scientific event.

Then, Shadi Jamili mentioned the support provided for the selected individuals and teams until the commercialization stage as the distinction of this scientific event compared to the other festivals.

At the end of the meeting, Soroush Moaddab, the YSF executive manager, gave explanations about all aspects of the festival, including the process of registering ideas, evaluating ideas, as well as the closing ceremony.
