Establishment of the ” Basic Sciences and Technology” UNESCO Club

 

The opening meeting of the Basic Sciences and Technology UNESCO Club was held on Saturday, May 15, 2022 with the presence of Dr. Peyman Salehi (Deputy of Research from Ministry of Science, Research and Technology), Dr. Hojjatullah Ayoubi (Secretary General of the National Commission for UNESCO-Iran), Dr. Sadollah Nasiri Gheidari (President of Shahid Beheshti University), Mr. Ebrahim Jamili (Chairman of the Policy Council of the Young Scientists Festival) Dr. Nasser Gholami (Director of University of Tehran Supporters Foundation) Dr. Fatemeh Mohammadipanah (Head of the International Committee of the Festival ), Mr. Soroush Modab (Executive Director of the Festival), Dr. Younes Shokrkhah (Director of UNESCO Communication Group), Dr. Abdolmehdi Mostakin (Director of UNESCO Culture Group), Dr. Mohammad Rasool Sadeghi (UNESCO Deputy Director for Culture), Mr. Dr. Amir Roshanbakhsh (Deputy of Communications and Partnerships of the National Commission for UNESCO-Iran) and Dr. Reza Fakhrzadeh (Director of the UNESCO Cities Network), was held in the meeting hall of the National Commission for UNESCO in Tehran.

According to the public relations of the National Commission for UNESCO-Iran, Dr. Ayoubi, noted that the Basic Science and Technology Club is the 23rd UNESCO Club with goals such as increasing the awareness on the critical role of basic sciences in the development of the country and supporting more active participation of women in the development of applied basic sciences.

Following Dr. Ayoubi’s speech, Dr. Salehi said: “Fortunately, scientific, executive and economic people are present at the team of the Basic Sciences and Technology Club, which promise the realization of the assigned tasks of the club.” He added: “We hope that after the establishment of this club, we will be able to promote the festival of basic sciences at the international level through this club and have an annual calendar in the field of technology to make the best use of the capacities of this club.”

Dr. Nasiri Gheidari pointed out that the National Commission for UNESCO-Iran is an effective and efficient institution at the international level, and expressed hope that the establishment of this club could be a turning point for a focused work on basic sciences that are the source of most global developments.

At the end of the meeting, Eng. Ebrahim Jamili, the secretary of the Basic Science and Technology Club, mentioned that they believe in scientific diplomacy and consider the services of the club as social responsibility of the team. The ultimate goal of the club is the progress of science and technology and the employment of elite youth in this field.

It should be mentioned that Dr. Mahmoud Kamraei, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Tehran, as the President of the Club, Eng. Ebrahim Jamili, Chairman of the Policy Council of the of Young Scientists Festival as the Secretary of the Club, Dr. Peyman Salehi, Vice President for Research at Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Dr. Sadollah Nasiri Gheidari, President of Shahid Beheshti University, Dr. Nasser Gholami, Director of University of Tehran Supporters Foundation, University of Tehran, Dr. Hamidreza Moshfegh, Faculty member of the University of Tehran, Dr. Siamak Yasemi, Dr. Mehdi Mohammadi and Dr. Fatemeh Mohammadipanah are other members of this club.
